The Body as Temple, Read Carefully
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you?
1 Corinthians 6:19–20
The verse is quoted often in support of health regimens, and its actual context is a dispute about sexual ethics and about who owns a person. Reading it as a diet text is not wrong so much as small.1
The argument Paul is making
The temple image works because a temple is not the property of the people who use it. Paul's conclusion is ownership — you are not your own — and the ethical weight falls there.
